What’s on Your End-of-Year Car Checklist?
It’s December again, and if you’re like most people, you’re busy making your Christmas list and drafting a New Year’s resolution.
But hold on a second. Have you thought about making up an end-of-year car checklist as well? Why is this so important, and what should you put on that list?
Routine Toyota Maintenance
First, are you up to date with your manufacturer-recommended service checks? If you’re overdue, head to our SpringHill Toyota service center today. Our experts will look at your car’s fluid levels, change your oil, and rotate your tires, as needed.
Test Your Battery Health
Batteries wear down over time, and the type of temperature fluctuations you may experience in Alabama can certainly affect their performance.
Open the hood and have a look at the casing to see if there’s any corrosion around the terminals. You may need to get it evaluated so that you avoid becoming stranded, and batteries that are around three years old may need to be replaced.
Evaluate Your HVAC Performance
You may not need to use your heating very much in the Deep South, but you’ll certainly rely on your HVAC system during the late spring and summer.
At the end of the calendar year, it’s a good time to check this system to make sure the HVAC is working properly. It may need a refrigerant top-up or a full service, so you’re ready for those dog days of summer.
Review Your Documents and Renewals
Now is the time to make sure that you’re up to date with your legal documents and other forms. You can also review your insurance policy to make sure that it adequately meets your coverage needs.
Does your vehicle need an inspection and if so, is it overdue? Double-check your vehicle registration as well.
Restock Your Emergency Kit
It’s very important to have an emergency kit on board so you’re ready for anything. A good kit will have battery jumper cables, a flashlight, a first aid kit, a portable phone charger, and basic tools. You may also need a tire pressure gauge, some bottled water, a high-visibility jacket, and an air pump.
You may never actually use the kit, but on the other hand, it could prove to be a lifesaver.
Check the Batteries on Your Key Fob and Remote
Everything is about shortcuts these days and you may rely on your key fob or garage door remote to make life easier. Now is a suitable time to check the battery condition of both and replace, as necessary. It’ll help you avoid any lockout issues on a dark and rainy night.
